Aerospace company SpaceX has officially acquired AI coding startup Cursor. The acquisition was valued at $60 billion, and Musk’s company completed it in an all-stock deal.
Earlier this year, SpaceX also acquired Musk’s xAI. In April, the aerospace company and Cursor announced a deal to jointly develop the technology; the deal also gave the Musk-led company an option to acquire Cursor for $60 billion.
In June, SpaceX listed on the stock market and had a huge IPO (Initial Public Offering). After completing the largest IPO in history, the two companies announced that they were moving forward with the acquisition.
According to an announcement published on the Cursor blog, the AI coding startup repeatedly referenced SpaceX’s computing infrastructure. The company has been renting out parts of its vast computing infrastructure to customers, including Anthropic and tech giant Google.
Cursor, developed by Anysphere, said that by becoming part of the aerospace company, it will have access to the world’s largest fleet of GPUs.
The aerospace company “is building the computing capacity needed to scale intelligence far beyond what exists today,” the company added. “Cursor will be one place where that intelligence becomes useful.”
