Relay, an AI automation startup, is shutting down, and some of its employees, including its CEO, are joining Google’s Chrome team, according to TechCrunch. The decision comes after the app’s closure was announced in July.
Jacob Bank, who previously spent more than six years at Google, Relay’s founder and CEO, said on Monday that the app will be shutting down access for paid users starting September 14.
Free users have lost access to the app since August 15th.
“I am rejoining Google as the VP of Product for Google Chrome! Several of my colleagues from Relay.app are joining the team as well,” Bank wrote on LinkedIn on Monday.
“I’ve spent my whole career doing one thing: building tools that help people get more done with Al, without sacrificing their personal creativity or insights. And joining the Chrome team is an ideal opportunity to bring those experiences to many, many more people,” he added.
Bank co-founded Timeful, a smart scheduling app, in 2013, which was acquired by Google in 2015. After the acquisition, he joined the search giant and worked in various departments, including product lead for Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Chat. He eventually left the company in July 2021, before Relay was launched.
Relay allowed users to increase productivity through workflow automation. It helped businesses streamline repetitive tasks like document drafting and copyediting. The startup also helped with various project management tasks.
