Apple’s Exciting OLED iPad Mini Could Launch in October With Major Display Upgrade

by Lissa Oxmem

Apple is reportedly preparing a major update to its compact tablet, with the long-rumored OLED iPad Mini expected to debut in October. While not officially confirmed, reports from Bloomberg and supply-chain sources suggest the launch will coincide with Apple’s fall product lineup.

The biggest change is the shift to an OLED display, replacing the LCD panels used in previous models. This upgrade would bring deeper blacks, richer colors, and improved energy efficiency—features already introduced in the iPad Pro lineup.

However, the 9-to-5 Mac report suggests that while the OLED iPad Mini is expected to deliver a significant display upgrade, it may still be limited to a 60Hz refresh rate. This would enhance overall visual quality but fall short of Apple’s ProMotion technology.

At the same time, the shift to OLED could drive the device’s price even higher. The current iPad mini starts at $599, up from $499 before Apple implemented broader price increases across its product lineup, indicating that the next-generation model could carry an even steeper price tag.

Reports suggest a possible A19 Pro chip could improve performance as well. Other possible upgrades are thinner bezels, a slightly larger screen and improved connectivity, but these are unconfirmed.

If true, the new model would be one of the biggest upgrades to the iPad mini in years, and bolster Apple’s move to OLED across its devices.
